Last weekend (2 weekends ago):
A much more relaxing weekend in comparison to our first one. On Friday, after working a 53 hour week, I was definitely ready for a break. Amy found a bar called Horsebox where they said, "it's where everybody knows your name." That's right, our own Cheers bar. We decided we liked the thought of it and headed over. It is a great little dive bar with pretty good beer on tap, decently priced for New York, and so friendly! We had a lot of fun playing that funny hook game and hanging out. We also stopped to get pizza afterwards at a place I can't remember the name of. Didn't compete with Two Boots.
On Saturday we did a little bit of shopping before heading over to Chelsea Market for the second week in a row. We first went to a paper store called Paper Presentation. It reminded me of a Paper Source. Primarily paper with a few fun things thrown in. I think this would be a great place to look at buying paper for my invitations!
At Chelsea Market we went for lunch this time and since Amy wasn't with us last time, we showed her around. We decided to get lobster rolls at The Lobster Place since it was on our bucket list. They were really good! I'm sure much more amazing in New England, but good enough for me to want more. I tell you what though, make sure you're wanting to spend some moneys if you go there, holy cow!
Sunday Kendra and I went to Hillsong NYC. Wow. So cool to go to a Hillsong Church. This church is crazy crowded with people who love Jesus. So awesome! Plus, they give out poptarts in the middle of church. Thats awesome. Bonus: About 35% of the people attending have accents. It's pretty great. Then we went to brunch at Ciao for Now. It was very good. I got almond brioche french toast. SO good. The restaurant was awfully cute as well. Mason Jar mugs?! yes!
After brunch we went over to Chelsea Trader Joe's. I believe I have explained my stress with grocery shopping before. We decided to try out a different store. What a difference! Seriously! I walked in and it was like a whole new experience. Still not my favorite thing to do but so much better than the one in Union Square. I bought some flowers and some ingredients to make my super secret chili recipe! Yum :)
This Weekend:
On Friday we participated in Restaurant Week (actually 3 weeks....) by going to Fig & Olive. It's a fixed rate with a fixed menu so us poor kids can experience fancy restaurants. I got these amazing Rosemary Lambchops and a Chocolate Pot de Creme for dessert. Delicious. Afterwards we went back to Horsebox. Yep, definitely a cheers bar. We decided that drawing mustaches on our fingers would make for a fun night. Plus they have board games there. Like Connect 4, Star Wars Life (what?) and Scattergories. We opted for Scattergories and played a couple rounds with naming our own letters, using our phones for timers and writing on receipts for paper. Man I love that game.
Saturday we went to our first museum, the Museum of Modern Art. I really enjoyed it when I went with my mom a few years back so I was excited to visit again. They were in the middle of changing exhibits while we were there so we missed a couple of things, but I finally did get to see Starry Night by Van Gogh. (It was on tour last time I visited.) I really like VanGogh. His paint strokes are so beautiful! There was a room dedicated specifically to Monet so there were these huge paintings on the wall. So cool. I was pleasantly surprised by Laszlo Maholy-Nagy. He was a Bauhaus-taught photographer/designer/artist who started the Illinois Institute of Technology. Here are some cool ones.

Following the MoMA we decided we wanted to experience the magic of Macy's and took the subway down to Herald Square. Macy's... I just don't think I can handle being in there.. All of the craziness of visitors, the merchandise thrown everywhere, the 8 floors that are a block long?! So nuts. I've been there a few times and I think I've decided. I'm not going back there unless I am dedicating a good chunk of my day AND excited about going.
Saturday Night was filled with Project Runway All-Stars, Brownies from Insomnia Cookies (yes, they deliver warm cookies/brownies to your doorstep) and Tyler Brunsman. It was a really great night and so fun to have friends over.
Sunday I went back to Hillsong. This week they had donuts! Loved it! After church Kendra and I went to Kate's Paperie looking for cards and Harney & Sons for some tea. Kate's was a little bit underwhelming but Harney & Son's was great! We got some cute mugs to add to our apartment and I found the teapot(s) of my dreams. They also let you try any tea on the wall for free. A whole cup! I decided to be done for the day with the intention to start designing my invitations but missed my family so instead I spent a couple hours calling and FaceTime-ing them.
